The Layering Ritual
General rule of thumb | Apply your skincare from lightest to heaviest — start with water-based products like mists, toners, and serums, and finish with richer, oil-based products like face oils and balms. This helps each layer absorb properly and work more effectively, whether your routine has two steps or ten.

FAQ
What are the benefits of water-based serums?
Water-based serums are lightweight and fast-absorbing, making them ideal for delivering hydrating and active ingredients deep into the skin without leaving a greasy residue. Active ingredients, like vitamins and antioxidants, target specific skin concerns, such irritation, redness or uneven tone, for visible results.
I already use an oil serum; what's the difference?
Oil-based serums are typically heavier and focus on sealing in moisture while water-based serums are lightweight and rapidly deliver hydrating ingredients deep into the skin. Using both in a layering routine can maximize hydration without feeling greasy.
Is a water-based serum enough for hydration, or do I still need a moisturizer?
A water-based serum provides deep hydration by delivering humectants (water-trapping ingredients) into the skin but it doesn’t seal in moisture. To prevent water loss and keep skin soft, follow with a moisturizer and/or face oil.
How do I layer skincare products properly?
Layer your skincare products from light to heavy—start with water-based serums on damp skin, follow with moisturizer, and finish with oils to seal everything in. In the morning, you can apply SPF last. Think lightweight (water) to heavyweight (oil).
